Diary Of Making A Movie #3 – Experimenting With Video

Figured it was as good a time as any to start making videos for this Fake Life Coach character. I knew that busting out the camera would immediately trigger a litany of reasons to delay (needing help with lighting and sound, not having the right equipment, etc).

So I decided to rely on voiceover (which I’m more comfortable with) and make a fake meditation video.

Equipment Used

My AT2020+ USB mic that I use for voiceovers

Stock footage from Videoblocks

Music from Audioblocks

Audacity for recording the audio

Adobe Premiere Pro for editing the video together

Knocked out a quick script in about 10 minutes and then recorded the audio track in another ten minutes.

I did some basic audio cleanup, like removing some background noise and compressing the sound to be a little louder. Then I mixed in some New Age-sounding music.

After that, it was just a matter of finding some stock footage to sync with the audio. Not counting rendering and uploading time, the whole thing took less than 30 minutes. Not bad.

Here’s the finished product:

The outlining is going well. Next step will be to knock out a first draft and get some notes on the story. Since this project will probably take several drafts before it’s ready for production, I’ll have some time to work on some other stuff while that’s going on:

  • Create a website for the character/film
  • Make videos to post on Youtube and Facebook
  • More memes and social media posts
